OK Guys,
What can we do to "DRAFT" Blumenthal to run against Lieberman for his Senate seat? He's the only one I can think of that could possibly beat him in Ct. Anyone out there have some influence with the State Dem. Committee? Other than writing letters, and making phone calls, I think someone with POWER in the State, needs to approach him. I for one would sure work my heart out to get him elected!! Anyone else????

1. Blumenthal leaves me feeling pretty lukewarm
to be honest.

The man seems to have a very out-sized ego.

2. How can you say that?
He's gone to bat for Ct. on many issues, on many occasions. If his ego is "so big" why did he decide not to run for Governer against Rell? He could surely beat her. Now that his name is in the National News, why shouldn't we take advantage of his media attention, and try to persuade him to try? In my opinion, I think "your opinion" is unsubstantiated. How involved in local politics are you? I know that in my neck of the woods, he is a very highly respected State Official. Are you just judging him on your lukewarm feelings?

3. Watching the guy in public,
watching his performances...

One anecdote for you. Was at a funeral a little while back. For a quiet, bright, philanthropic man who died way too early. Blumenthal makes sure he walks in just before the doors are closed for the service to begin. In a totally packed house, he also makes sure he's escorted to the front of the room. This was a room full of "important" people, BTW. He just had to be sure he was noticed. I thought it pretty crass.

He HAS done a lot of good, but he also seems to be on the lookout constantly for opportunities to put himself in the spotlight. That turns me off.

Not saying I don't prefer him to Lieberman, but at this point, I'd prefer just about any Dem to Lieberman.

5. I couldn't agree with you less
Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 10:00 AM by connecticut yankee
I've met him numerous times, and have found him to be a modest, self-effacing gentleman.

He's been a crusader, and has won important battles, especially with the big tobacco companies.

Unfortunately, he's afraid to run for anything he's not sure of winning, which is why he has never run for Governor (in spite of local Dems beseeching him for twelve years) and will not take on Lieberman for the Senate.

He's sure of being re-elected as AG, and that's where he'll stay until he has a shot at a sure thing.

6. Well I do agree with you there
I think he's not willing to try anything else as well. Can't really blame him, either.

And being a Dem challenging Lieberman here is a tough thing to consider. I don't think that would exactly be looked upon by the party PTB in a good light, you know?

I don't know the man personally, so my judgements can only be made on the information I've got: observations, really.

No argument with you, and I'd certainly be open to being persuaded otherwise. But at the moment, he doesn't excite me. And boy, I'd like someone here in CT who does for a change. Chris Murphy challenging Johnson might do it.

4. I'd like to see it, but it won't happen
Too many Democrats in Connecticut don't want to rock the boat and upset the party structure... which is part of the reason why Democrats have not won the governor's office since the 1980s.

7. Repukes like Lieberman
I talked to a friend who is a Repuke and he said he is going to vote for Lieberman. When I asked him why wouldn't he vote for the Repuke candidate he said, what for? Lieberman usually votes our way. I have never voted for a Repuke although I came real close last year in a local Senate race but just couldn't bring myself to do it. You know what, this may be the year. If Joe is going to vote and support Repukes I may as well get the real thing. This year it may be ABJ...Anybody But Joe!
