A-G Richard Blumenthal, why can't HE replace Joe Lieberman?
I thought that the Connecticut Forum would be better for this question, as opposed to GD or GD Politics.

Richard Blumenthal has been your Attorney-General for a long time, so why couldn't he challenge Joe Lieberman for that Senate seat? Would Blumenthal be more popular than Lieberman?

Here's a link to Blumenthal's biography:

Thanks.

1. Because he won't do it
No well-known Connecticut Democrat is going to risk incurring the wrath of the State Central Committee, which supports Lieberman. He brings in lots and lots of money. Money talks!!!!

Perhaps if millions of people wrote to them, they might change their minds.

Even if Blumenthal were drafted, he probably wouldn't run.

3. State Central Committee is not necessarily a Lieberman fan club
I know from my previous DTC Chair that some of the top level State Central Committee members can't stand Lieberman. They actually liked Howard Dean during the Prez primary race. They have to publicly support Lieberman because he's a Dem unless a Dem primary challenger appears and then they have to play neutral until the primary is over.

He is not going to challenge the most popular Democrat in CT.

4. I love Dick Blumenthal!
I have always thought that he couldn't challenge such an incumbent as Lieberman. Are you telling me that this might be possible? It would be great. I did think that Dick wanted to be a judge, then later he had thought about being a Senator. Great!

How can we help get him to run for the Senate in 06? Lieberman is turing out to be such a disappointment for so many of us, but we don't want to give up a Jewish Senator, that Dick would be a great substitution.

P.S. He has the money. His wife's dad owns (or did own) the Empire State Building.

5. Lets hope the rumors are right, and Bush does make him secratary of
defense, then Blumenthal will be the natural candidate

6. Because Blumenthal has already participated at a Lieberman fundraiser
Blumenthal and most of the elected CT Dems are either buddies with Lieberman or at the very least won't challenge Lieberman for the senate seat.

7. Joe is pretty popular here
So many Dems don't really want to stick their necks out.

Sorry to do this on the forum, I'm too new to send you a PM.

I just want to thank you for sending people to the Ned Lamont Resource (in your sig file). I put in a lot of time updating it daily, and it's nice that folks like you appreciate it.

I have set up a re-direct URL for the resource, because when I first started it, and started promoting it, the URL was about 10 miles long: http://www.laresistance.us/blog/ned-lamont-la-resistance-round-up/

That's where the resource is actually located, but if you want to use a shorter URL to send people to it, http://lamont.laresistance.us re-directs to the same place.

Again, very sorry to clog the forum with this, but I can't send a PM yet.

-Beau

12. I'm sceptical
because Dick participated in the Penguin Swim at Westport's Compo Beach last week. He jumped into freezing cold water on a very cold day and came out smiling.

I don't think he could have done that if he had a chronic illness.
