Top Connecticut stories in 2005
Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 11:03 PM by Nutmegger
Kind of a quiet board, lol.

So here is a list of important stories that happened right here in Connecticut:

-John Rowland was sentenced on March 18, 2005 to one year and one day in prison.

-Michael Ross was executed on May 13, 2005. He was the first person to be executed in New England in 45 years.

-Groton Sub Base: The federal Base Realignment and Closure Commission removes Submarine Base New London from the national base-closure list, saving thousands of jobs.

-Connecticut became the first state to voluntarily accept same-sex civil unions through the legislation process. Civil unions took effect on October 1, 2005.

-Connecticut adopted campaign finance reform and is seen to be the most vigorous in the nation. Connecticut was the first state to adopt the reform without a referendum. It will take effect on December 21, 2006

I don't believe I made any errors on the dates. Feel free to add other major stories that I missed.

Happy New Year!
