CT Gov Race: Rell In Command (Ras Poll)
She can't be that bad can she? I mean, she's wiping the floor with Dems in a very blue state. Or am I confused?

1. Name recognition. Also she's a "mom"
She really escaped being tainted by the Rowland scandal. And she has this prissy demeanor. I'd like to blow torch her wardrobe, it is so out of date. But I swear this must be part of her appeal, kind of so bland she just can't be bad.

I'm supporting my mayor, John deStefano of New Haven, but I'm not seeing any enthusiasm out in the rest of the state. He's been a good mayor and has just been inaugurated for his next term (2 years).

Hey, it's early. Things will gear up later in the year. Stay tuned, bamaLefty (are you in AL or in CT?).

2. I'm in Alabama
It's just that all races interest me. I'm an 18 y/o political junkie.

Good luck in CT. :hi:

5. Wow, life has to be really dull
for anybody to get excited about Jodi Rell and CT politics. And Hartford, believe me, is one boring city (altho it has such good civic minded people and some beautiful neighborhoods). Sorry to be so chauvinstic but I live in New Haven, the culture capital of the state. Having said that, Hartford did produce one of the greatest American poets of the 20th century, Wallace Stevens (but one of his great works is entitled "An Ordinary Evening in New Haven"!

:hi:

3. I want Rell to leave!
CT yankee: "I'd like to blow torch her wardrobe, it is so out of date.":rofl::rofl::rofl: Funny yet true.

I'm also supporting Mayor DeStefano if he gets the nomination. But I would agree with what CT yankee had to say; I don't see much enthusiasm else where.

4. I know it's not pc to criticize her clothes
but if I see her in another one of those high necked suit blouses that we used to wear in the mid 70s for cryin' out loud, I'm gonna scream. Surely the woman can afford a little trip to Talbot's.

6. she's liberal compared with many national Republicans
she proposed money for embryonic stem cell research, which was later upped by the state legislature.
she said she'd sign a civil unions bill if passed by the legislature
proposed full public financing for all statewide & national elections.
enthusiastically signed into law a bill that upped the state's minimum wage from $7.10 to $7.40/hour. $7.10 was already one of the highest in the nation.

She also has the state media eating out of the palm of her hand because she speaks with some sort of wise mother/grandmother common sense type charm.

The scandals she has had have been fairly well contained, or not even getting a blip in the media.
The Lisa Moody scandal seems to have died down after a tough few days for Rell. The crony-hiring of last year got zero mention (last year, Rell implemented a hiring freeze for all state employees, with exceptions for vital positions... yet, a few Rell cronies got cushy part-time jobs post freeze, including one getting like $75K per year to manage the governor's mansion) And, she has successfully distanced herself from her boss of 10 years, John Rowland.

That said, Rasmussen is also a well known Republican operative... so, I'd make both races about 5 points closer.

7. At a personal level, she's a good person, but she's not a good leader
She's a champion of the status quo and the state of Connecticut can not afford status quo. What Rell has going for her is aides who know how to play the PR game and she willingly follows their advice.

The race is quiet right now due to the Holiday season. I expect around February the spotlight will focus more on the Gov's race. I'm supporting DeStefano http://www.destefanoforct.com/ and feel that he has the best game plan to attack Rell. He needs to attack her as the heir of an Admin who has led CT to poor job creation and retention and sell himself as one who helped rebuild New Haven and what he did for New Haven he plans on doing for CT.

While Rell personally is not corrupt, a la Rowland, she was part of that Admin and I find it difficult to believe that she didn't know about the corruption. She chose to turn a blind eye and ear to Rowland's corruption and right now, many people, tired of Rowland's corruption and not enthralled with Dem legislative leaders, are turning a blind eye to her indirect support of Rowland's corruption, but if they are forced to face the bitter facts that the Rowland-Rell Admin has made CT economically weaker, her poll numbers should drop.

The problem DeStefano has is if he gets into a bruising fight with Malloy, the Stamford mayor, that could drain his war chest. DeStefano currently leads in money and endorsements. DeStefano is semi-quietly building a good state-wide campaign network. Whether that is good enough to beat Rell, only time will tell.

8. I too am supporting DeStefano.
This race is NOT over. It's just begun. Malloy is too corrupt. I wish he would just bow out now.

9. Damn straight it's not over
I'm just tired of the people dismissing the race because goody two shoes Rell is the flavor of the year. I don't want a Democrat or Republican lite governor!
