Help New Haven DUers! The proposed Yale Cancer Center
I feel torn on this issue because I am being given strong arguments on the sides of the neighborhood residents vs. medical workers and people I know with cancer. I know there are other issues such as the unionization at the hospital, but that's an easy one for me.

I am in serious need of further enlightenment. Hubby works for the city and has answered some of my questions. However, I have being paying more attention to national issues than I should, I guess, to the detriment of my knowledge on a local issue (hiding head in shame).

2. What do you think?
I know the neighborhood is furious about the hospital's plans. A good friend (and good liberal Dem)who is a medical worker is furious about the neighborhood's issues and wants the cancer center. This is a race issue, a town/gown issue, a labor union issue and a health care cost containment issue. It is a mess.

My spouse believes that St. Rafe's cancer center takes care of the medical needs just fine. He claims that Yale wants to outdo Harvard, as usual, and that is a lot of what this is about.

I am really confused. I did go to the website, which had great information also.

Do you support the center being built where it is planned to be?

3. Yale has Money
Yale has money falling out of it's arse and should treat it's workers like human beings. I strongly doubt that whatever the workers want would make Yale suffer too much of a financial burden. Yale will build one if it thinks there's enough of a market to make it profitable. If Yale decides against it hopefully it won't scapegoat the workers.

4. If the center is built they damn sure better give the workers
a decent break. It is absolutely disgraceful in a city as liberal as New Haven for this even to be an issue.

I guess my question is what is your opinion on the neighborhood vs. Yale on where it is going to be built.

5. This is a sticky situation

From what I already know about (which isn't much), I was err on the side of the neighbors rather than the hospital. I would tend to agree with your spouse, that St. Rafe's has the capacity for this and that Yale wants all this fame, prestige blah blah blah.

Sorry, I'm really don't know TOO much about it which is sad since it's in the same state! JEEZZUS!!

Personally, I don't have much sympathy for a hospital that sues the poor people.
