DeStefano, a Democratic candidate for governor, said it was important that Wal-Mart reverse its ban across the entire country and act in Connecticut before the General Assembly passes a law requiring it.

On Friday, state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said he is preparing a formal legal opinion on the issue.

While pharmacies are plentiful in Connecticut and Massachusetts, in other communities, Wal-Mart may be the only drug store available.

Dannel Malloy, mayor of Stamford and DeStefano’s rival of the Democratic nod for governor, said he has been on record for the past two years in favor of a state law on the issue.
