registration were set up outside. For some reason, Malloy was set up in a huge double tent and DeStefano was set up in a small tent half the size nearby, separated by considerable space. On Friday night there was a big party and the big tent had the best food---cheese, crackers, veggies, dessert, fruit and a chocolate fountain for dipping your strawberries or biscotti in, whereas DeStefano's tent had just crackers, pretzels and cookies, most of which ran out.
I asked a Malloy staffer who paid for the food at their tent and he said the Dem Central Committee, so obviously the food was for all the Dems there and not just Malloy's people. However, the setup clearly gave the appearance that Malloy had a well run, well organized, well heeled campaign whereas DeStefano's looked pauperish and disorganized in comparison.
Someone also told me the "big tent" was "Lieberman's" tent. I asked for details and the person said the huge tent was for Lieberman's people and Malloy's backers tend to support Lieberman. I don't know if offically it was "Lieberman's" tent, but Joe's people are Malloy's and vice versa so maybe they maneuvered it to use the big space. The result at any rate was the impression that Malloy had the biggest tent, most supporters, best organization and best food!
Seems to me this imbalance in the setup created a certain wrong impression that carried over into Saturday.
