For those of you worried about a Republican CT senator.
Check out Alan Schlesinger's website. "Who you ask?" He's the Republican nominee, the one that Lieberman supporters proclaim as the big scary bogeyman. http://www.schlesinger2006.com/index-3.html

The last news item was posted on 4/15 and his one page list of great ideas is pretty boring until you get to tax reform. This is a direct quote, exclamation point and all:

"Alan has remained steadfast in his determination to reform and bring fairness to the federal tax code. The elimination of the complexities and special interest tax loopholes are at the center of Alan's tax code reform goals. As an example, we need to change the absurdity of not allowing a deduction for net yearly capital losses of over $3,000 while allowing capital gains on residential real estate of up to $500,0000 to go completely untaxed!"

You really can't make this stuff up--we're going to balance the budget on the backs of people who have to sell their family homes to afford cat food to eat in their declining years.

1. Schlesinger has no shot
In a 3 way race, he'll be lucky to break 20%. Republicans will vote in droves for Lieberman out of fear of getting somebody too progressive in his place.

The only scenario where I can see a Republican win is if Schlesigner is convinced to drop out for "health reasons" and somebody like Chris Shays or Nancy Johnson is "drafted" to rescue the Republican ticket. The Repubs might be willing to give up the House seat to pick up the Senate seat. Even then, I'd see a Shays or Johnson squeaking out a close victory, at the best.

2. I'm not too worried about him
As Ned Lamont says: "You’re not going to lose a senator, you’re going to gain a Democrat."

The Repuke supporters will flock towards LIEberman and vote en masse.

3. That's what they did in 1988
and how Lieberman originally got elected.

He was running against Lowell Weicker, a "Maverick" Repub (who is now backing Ned).

Prominent Repukes backed Joe financially, especially William F. Buckley, who hated Weicker and started BuckPac to help Joe.

They may come out of the woodwork again. He's their boy, and they don't want to lose him.
