(2nd dist., N.L. Day) Survey shows Sullivan closing gap

The poll noted that Sullivan managed to pull into a statistical tie despite trailing in name recognition behind Simmons, who is known to 88 percent of prospective voters compared to 60 percent for his opponent.

On a day when Simmons appeared in Salem with U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta, the Democrats also noted that 62 percent of respondents viewed President Bush's performance unfavorably, and 58 percent agreed with the assertion that their representative should "stand up to and oppose the out-of-touch policies of the Bush administration."

Honestly, I was surprised by the poll. I thought that Simmons had been fairly successful in putting a little distance between himself and the Texas wingnuts. For instance, he managed to have important business in Washington when Cheney was in New London for the Coast Guard Academy graduation.

I'm not aware of a lot of deep antipathy toward Simmons himself. But it goes to show the depths of the disgust so many in our noble district feel toward this whole vile, miasmic administration.

I also got a good laugh out of the Route 11 project being "fast tracked" the day this poll came out.

3. Well, Simmons is not extreme Right Wing
And, he doesn't always toe the Bush line (I remember him being critical of the plan to cut veteran's benefits...) But, Simmons is still a Right Winger and is part of the problem.

4. All I can say is I hope they build the damn Highway
45 minutes to go from RT 161 to Salem 4 corners (About 5 miles) last night.

Just another accident on RT-85, an almost nightly occurance.
