Gubernatorial race heating up in state
(WTNH, Aug. 22, 2006 8:05 PM) _ The race for the state's top seat is slowly picking up. New Haven Mayor John DeStefano and Governor Jodi Rell both had events today and they're starting to sound like political opponents.

The differences in the two candidates have been emerging and both candidates said today there will be some televised debates.

DeStefano got the endorsement of the American Federation of teachers. He got the other teachers' union endorsement two weeks ago.

When Mayor DeStefano and his new running-mate, Mary Glassman, got the AFT endorsement today we got a preview of the theme DeStefano plans to use against the popular governor between now and election day.
