My LTTE in The Day today: Fascism Has Nothing To Do With Most Religions

Fascism Has Nothing To Do With Most Religions

This is a response to letter writers, such as the author of the letter titled “Israel not a threat to peaceable people” published Sept. 14, who call Islamic fundamentalist extremists “Islamofascists.”

Fascism has nothing to do with Islam, Israel or Judaism. According to the late Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini, “Fascism ought to more properly be called corporatism since it is the merger of state and corporate power.” That merger is the goal of neo-conservatives, like the George W. Bush-Dick Cheney administration, for America.

Even conservative and Watergate whistleblower John Dean believes that the United States under the Bush-Cheney administration is in the initial stages of fascism.

Jon Stewart: Do you believe that the conservative movement has been overtaken by ... fascism...?

John Dean: ... It's proto-fascism...

This is from John Dean while appearing on the Daily Show, July 11, 2006. For more, log onto http://lincmad.blogspot.com/2006/07/john-dean-on-daily-show.html

American novelist and playwright Sinclair Lewis said, “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” Republican Party leaders today, who are aided and abetted by pro-corporate and “free-trade” Democratic allies like Sen. Joseph Lieberman, have taken Mr. Lewis' warning and turned it into their game plan. Study Dr. Lawrence Britt's “14 Characteristics of Fascism” by logging onto www.rense.com/general37/fascism.htm and see how prophetic Sinclair Lewis was.

1. excellent letter
I recommended it, though I doubt you'll get 5 here in the CT forum. I'm surprised it would get published, though I was also surprised my letter that had noted the Bush family Nazi connections was published in the Manchester paper.

Anyhow, congrats on being published. Great point in getting the founder of fascism quoted in there.

Only fault I would say is calling Lieberman a "Democratic" ally...

2. Yeah I debated with my self about calling Lieberman a "Democratic ally"
but he isn't the only Dem who enables the fascist takeover of our nation and he was labeled a Democrat when he did it. I did preface Democrat with pro-corporate and "Free trade" so as to distinguish from those Dems who opposed those kinds of bills.

3. How about separating Joe from democratic allies by
referring to him as the "then-Democratic ally." I try to separate Joe from the Democratic Party as much as possible.
