I admit that I'm an out-of-stater, but one ugly question did occur to me.
Did Joe Lieberman vote to confirm ex-Arkansas Project legal counsel Ted Olsen for US Solicitor General back in 2001? I remember noting that a depressing number of Democratic Senators did so.
To my way of thinking, no self-respecting Senate Democrat should have done so. The sleazy Arkansas Project was part and parcel of the extra-constitutional right-wing effort to undo the 1992 and 1996 presidential elections. For Democratic Senators to have voted to confirm Olsen is in my mind to reward sleazy politics and a campaign of personal vilification.
I personally hope that incumbent Democrats have learned better about the GOP since then. That sort of "bipartisanship" displayed by too many Democratic Senators is a disgrace, and oughtn't EVER be repeated. As far as I'm concerned, if Joe Lieberman voted to confirm Ted Olsen, that would be another reason for me to applaud from the sidelines should Connecticut voters remove Lieberman from office.
