Dear Senator Dodd,
I just read your strong words against the detainee bill, and I remember your clear opposition to torture during the Gonzales hearing. I am proud to be represented by a Senator who is willing to take a principled stand for human rights.
As you know, Senator Lieberman voted for the detainee bill. I had hoped that his vote would move you to come out swinging for Lamont. However, I have heard that even after the vote, you told someone in the media that you wished Lieberman had won the primary.
I understand that you and Senator Lieberman have been friends for many years, and I understand that it is personally difficult for you to fully commit to the Democratic candidate Ned Lamont.
Nonetheless, if you don’t express your deepest disappointment with Lieberman over this vote, and from here on in campaign hard and without reservation for Lamont, I will consider your campaign against torture to be tainted.
Please, please use your authority and popularity to fight for Lamont. Our state and our country needs senators who won’t compromise on torture and human rights, who won’t disregard our constitution, and who will stand up against the excesses of this administration.
