My published LTTE-- Global-warming Deniers Can Look At Alaska Melt
It's my first published LTTE of 2007 and it was published in The Day today.

This is in response to the letter titled "Gore's Global-warming flick a long infomercial," published Jan. 2.

I'd like global-warming deniers to know I've heard there's cheap land for sale in Shishmaref, Alaska. Visit www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/22/eveningnews/main1926055.shtml for information. Quick. Snatch it up before the sea swallows it.

Global warming is thawing the permafrost and the land Shishmaref, Alaska, resides on is now susceptible to erosion.

Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" is based on the most current and sound science on global warming. Not a single credible scientist disputes that global warming is real. The only ones denying it are on the payrolls of the petroleum industry.

Inconvenient truths can be denied, but the peril they pose won't diminish. That's the point of Mr. Gore's story in the documentary about his family's tobacco fortunes. Scientists proved that there was a direct connection between smoking tobacco and lung cancer. The Gores denied that inconvenient truth and kept raising tobacco as their cash crop until Al Gore's sister, a smoker, died of lung cancer. It took the loss of a loved one to force them to accept that inconvenient truth.

We can't afford to lose our biosphere before we accept the inconvenient truth that our abuse of the Earth is killing us all. Mr. Gore's documentary offers us hope. He shows us how we ordinary folks can do our part to save our planet.

Here's the LTTE I was responding to
Gore's Global-warming Flick A Long Infomercial

Al Gore's movie “An Inconvenient Truth” is based on questionable scientific theory. Its complete lack of a fair and balanced presentation of the pros and cons on the issue makes the movie one long infomercial selling an idea to the uniformed for a political gain.

During Hurricane Katrina, the media jumped on the global warming bandwagon as the reason we have horrible hurricanes. They were wrong. This last season we didn't have any hurricanes, even after the “scientists” predicted a record-breaking season. A professor interviewed on TV pointed out that if global warming was at fault for hurricane intensity, then we should see intensified storm systems globally. We do not.

The melting ice sheets are a favorite catcall for the global-warming sycophants, but there are many studies showing other glacial areas on the planet thickening. The global-warming adherents claim wildly inaccurate temperature variations on the planet. The American satellite system we have in place doesn't support the claim.

The last article I saw on the issue showed a 1-degree increase in global temperature over the last 20 years. Global warming is a theory. Theories must be supported by scientific fact, not a majority of opinion.

All of the claims made by Al Gore and others can be and have been refuted by the global scientific community. The media and their left-wing allies don't want people to hear about that. They continue to preach their gospel and present the rest of us with a lopsided view on the issue
