I just submitted this letter to Joe Lieberman, via his website. Let's see if I get a response.
Dear Joe,
I have been a resident of CT for almost my entire life, and supported you in previous elections when you ran as a democrat. I will be honest; for the first time, I did not vote for you in November, and was truly dismayed to do so, especially after supporting you as VP in the 2000 election. With your latest statements regarding the war in Iraq, I feel that you have stopped listening to those whom you represent and started listening only to those in the Bush Administration, who helped you get reelected in November. This war is a travesty, and was launched under fraudulent terms. Sending more troops to Iraq is a grave mistake, and will not help to solve the problems that our military faces over there. I am surprised every time I see you side with the Bush administration and Republicans, being that you used to be one of the voices that could be counted on to show the path to democratic reason.
I ask you as a constituent of the state you represent to take a close look at what this war is doing to this country, what this administration is doing, raping domestic programs to finance an unnecessary war that claims more innocent lives each day. Sending more men with guns into Iraq will only serve to further destabilize the region as more insurgents are born out of the frustration of being occupied and subjugated by US forces. Those same citizens that celebrated the fall of Saddam by tearing down his statues are now setting up IEDs to kill those driving our convoys.
This is especially poignant since my brother in law is stationed in Iraq with the National Guard, and is a driver of those convoys. Please see past partisan politics and special interests, and stop this gasoline about to be thrown on the fire.
Sincerely,
Scott McCue
