1. Thanks for the post
West Point is in NY, but is close to CT. Is Herr Cheney going to swing by somewhere?

3. Here are further details
Connecticut Opposes the War (COW), Southeastern Connecticut Peace & Justice Network and other anti-war and social justice groups will rally then engage in a silent march and witness to protest George Bush's War in Iraq at Bush's appearance at the Coast Guard Academy commencement in New London May 23, 9:00 AM to 12 noon.

DATE: Wednesday, May 23
TIME: 9:00 AM to 12 Noon
PLACE: Soldiers and Sailors Monument, corner of Bank and State Streets, New London, CT 06360

PARKING: Free parking in lot off of Eugene O'Neill Drive near Pearl Street; paid public parking garage near Union Station.

COW and the SE CT Peace and Justice Network will be gathering at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument in downtown New London at the intersection of Bank Street and State Street near Union Station. The monument has been the site of many anti-war activities over the years. After speaking and singing, we will begin a silent march and witness from the downtown monument to the front gates of the Coast Guard Academy. The distance is approximately 1.5 miles; we will be providing a shuttle bus for those who cannot walk the whole way.

We will engage in a silent witness outside of the Coast Guard Academy. The shuttle bus will be used to provide transportation back to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

It is vitally important that you come and make a powerful silent statement telling George Bush to end his war without end in Iraq.

COW will provide a bus from your area if enough people commit to riding one to New London. Please call John Murphy @ (860) 995-3389 if you are interested in riding on a bus.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

9:00 AM to 9:45 AM. – Rally at Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Corner of State and Bank Streets, and across from Union Station in New London. There will be speakers and vocals by the Raging Grannies.

9:45 AM to 10:15 AM – Silent march to Coast Guard Academy. COW will provide some large banners and rally signs but individual signs are most welcome. Black arm bands will be available at the monument thanks to SE CT Peace and Justice Network. The silent march route is tentatively going along State, Huntington and Williams Street to the Coast Guard Academy; you will be notified if the route changes.

10:15 AM to 11:30 AM – Silent witness at Coast Guard Academy with banners, signs and armbands.

11:30 AM – Return shuttle bus back to Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Williams Street just below the Coast Guard Academy.

DIRECTIONS FROM SOUTH:I-95N to Exit 82A. Follow access road to stop sign. Go straight across intersection and follow Huntington Street into downtown New London. Turn left onto State Street at Courthouse. Paid public parking available at Union Station and free public parking lot behind Bank Street.
