My LTTE in The Day: Democrats Keep Falling For GOP Traps
Democrats Keep Falling For GOP Traps

The letter titled "Supporting 'Betray us' ad damages our nation" published Oct. 2, and the Congressional Republican hypocrisy over commending Rush Limbaugh - who called soldiers who opposed the current folly in Iraq "phony soldiers" during his Sept. 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show - shows how morally bankrupt the right wing is.

Ads don't kill innocent people and drive the world's remaining superpower into bankruptcy. Corrupt politicians, such as President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Sen. Joe Lieberman and their sycophants, do.

Gen. David Petraeus is a public figure. The First Amendment does not exempt military officials from citizen's criticism. Challenging the integrity of his report on Iraq, which was largely written by the White House, is what the MoveOn.org ad did.

Democrats, who voted for the Republican-sponsored censure resolution against MoveOn.org, should be ashamed of themselves. They need to stop falling for obvious Republican traps. That is what the censure motion against MoveOn.org was. Democrats should have gone on the offensive against the Republicans. Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi should have led the Democrats to the steps of the Capitol building, held a press conference, and denounced Republicans for wasting taxpayer money on grandstanding their blatant hypocrisy about free speech and stabbing the troops in the back by obstructing bills that would help get the troops home as soon as possible.

Here's the LTTE I was referring to
Supporting 'Betray Us' Ad Damages Our Nation

I have taken the liberty of sending a message to my fellow American Christians, Jews, Muslims, agnostics and even some "irreligious'' libertines - such as Sen. Christopher Dodd, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Barak Obama and Sen. John Edwards, and others who support ''Moveon.org,'' a left-wing radical publication, sponsored in part by Hollywood leftists such as George Soros - who so viscously attacked Gen. David Petraeus by sponsoring The New York Times full-page ad, ''General Petraeus-General Betrayus".

I urge all recipients of my message to carefully assess the damage this type behavior is doing to America.

1. Right Winger responds to my LTTE
Democrats Blame But Don't Offer Good Ideas

The letter titled "Democrats keep falling into GOP traps," published Oct. 4, is just one more glaring example of how vacuous many in the Democrat leadership and their supporters are in the arena of ideas.

Instead of providing productive dialogue to the solution of problems, they have found the pointing of fingers, character assassination and the maligning and defamation of those providing opposing viewpoints much easier. The letter writer's remarks clearly demonstrate little or no research was conducted before she submitted them. Instead, she chose to parrot the talking points of Sen. Harry Reid and his group.

I would suggest, however, that she may have been duped in the election of so-called "anti-war" congressional candidates to Washington. Even the Democratic presidential candidates, regardless of their rhetoric, are not suggesting immediate de-funding of the war or total troop withdrawal from the region, because they understand the political ramifications. Short of these aspiring leaders growing a pair to follow through on their anti-war campaign promises, nothing substantive will be forthcoming from her party.

Remember, cowards run. Our colors and our military that defends them don't.

Editor's note: The writer is commander of Salem Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2774.

Of course, this Right Winger missed the whole point of my LTTE, which was to defend MoveOn.org's First Amendment rights against Repuke hypocrisy and Dem cave-in to Repuke faux tirades. Unlike him, I did spank the Dem leaders along with the Repukes and I did offer constructive criticism to Dem leaders on how to stand up to faux Repuke outrage.

3. A belated congratulations for your LTTE!
The Dems have got to stop doing this. It makes them look stupid and weak. There has got to be a better way.

Your letter is perfect and correct in its logic. Brava!
