Hartford Courant endorses *
From the people who brought you John Rowland:

"As in many past elections, Americans are closely divided over who should be the next president. It's not a clear-cut case of one candidate being far superior to the other. Yet history is not made by those who stand on the sidelines and wring their hands. The people must choose on Nov. 2, and The Courant recommends George W. Bush over John F. Kerry.

A cataclysmic event occurred nine months into Mr. Bush's presidency - the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 - that changed America and reordered the criteria for judging who should be president.

In this age of global terrorism, Americans must have a resolute leader. President Bush is better prepared than his challenger to manage the security needs of the nation. His promise to prevent attacks on the United States by taking the fight to the enemy abroad is one of the main reasons we recommend Mr. Bush for a second term."

3. What the hell happened to the CT I grew up in??
Maybe my memory is clouded by 15 years of being away, but I seem to remember feeling that Connecticut would never suffer any kind of Republican administration...

7. What happened is a new owner and a new publisher for
the Courant.

They made it clear that it was essentially Jack Davis' call. From what I've heard, no one should have been surprised at the call.

I think they're behaving precisely like their endorsed candidate: resolutely refusing to admit mistakes (their endorsement of Bush last time) and instead compounding the problem. Even if you're wrong, stick with it, whatever you do. No THERE'S leadership. Not.

Courant. It has been right leaning for a while now. It in no way represnts the views of all CT anymore than the York Daily Record represents the views of all of PA. Here are some CT papers that endorsed Kerry:

New London Day
Stamford Advocate
Greenwich Times
Norwich Bulletin

9. agreed on the Courant
The Courant has little legitimacy left when it comes to politics. They were good prior to Rowland becoming governor, but when they lost their FOI appeal on Rowland's police 'incident' involving his ex-wife, they seemed to change. Probably being acquired by the Tribune, as well as Rowland riding the Clinton economy to good approval ratings - but they changed to Rowland cheerleaders until the last year of Johnny R's tenure...

They probably have more legitimacy than the NY Post, but not much more.

They have been slipping in a lot of RW bias in their articles, I've noticed - a recent article with blaring headlines stated "Study shows media biased towards Kerry" (or something like that)... the article cited a study by an organization called the CMPA. Nowhere in Liz Halloran's article did it state that the CMPA is funded by Right Wing extremists like Richard Mellon Scaife and is not really a legitimate media watchdog. My stern emails to the Courant, the Courant Reader Rep & Ms. Halloran went unanswered.
