Bah! New London Day endorses Simmons

It is one of the most unenthusiastic endorsements I've seen, and that's saying a lot this year. It relies on fears over the future of the Groton sub base (an important economic issue here), and on the old canard of Simmons's "influence" (yeah, in a political party that hates New England, dominated by a pResident who can barely admit to having been born here). Even the Hartford Courant, which is normally considerably to the right of the Day, endorsed Jim Sullivan.

Hi New London et al.,

Well, we've got our own New Haven Register endorsing Bush but nothing new there. CT Post endorsed Bush last Sunday but in a surprise endorsed Farrell over Shays today. Farrell is doing gangbusters, had Hillary and now Nancy Pelosi to help her out. Some of my friends in super rich Greenwich are supporting her and Westport (her base and a very artsy community) loves her. But I give up on the Hartford Courant as they endorsed Bush again (I always thought it was a good newspaper way back when).

What does LTTE mean? I'm a newbie to DU.

I think the Courant has endorsed one Democratic presidential candidate in its occasionally illustrious history (Clinton in 1992). I never had much of a chance to follow the Register or Post.

Sullivan is close to Simmons, but Simmons has outspent Sullivan 4 or 5 to 1.
