I walked into the registrar's office, two elderly women looked rather worn, obviously busy. The first woman asked what I needed, probably anticipating a problem of some sort. I told her I had Tuesday free and asked if they needed help at the polls.
You should have seen her eyes light up! It was like Santa Claus had walked into the room. She checked to see that I was registered in town and gave me an instruction sheet and an assignment -- a machine tender -- and said I needed to attend a meeting tonight at 7:00 pm. For which I be paid $2. Kinda funny, I thought...why bother. BUT...then she gave me a second sheet of paper explaining that I would actually be PAID $115 for "volunteering!"
What a bonus! It's gonna be a looooooonng day, 5:15 am until they release me, 8:00 or whenever, but what they hey. So, I'll miss out on the DU action, but I have a feeling the servers are going to be a tad slow anyway. So there you have it. If you have the day off, apparently it is CT law that poll workers be paid, so help out, earn a couple bucks (tax free, they tell me) and let's keep this grand experiment called "democracy" working!
