Conneticut's Republican Governor
How did Conneticut get a Republican governor? What happened? What is the Democratic Party like in Conneticut?

1. Connecticut was a solidly democratic party
through the 70's and 80's with Ella Grasso the William O'niell. After this run, in the late 80's there was essentially a power vacuum both democrat and republican. After Joememetum defeated Lowell Weiker for the senate in 1988, he had the highest name recognition in the state. With neither dems or repubs fielding a strong candidate, Weiker ran as an independent and won with about 40% of the vote. After Weiker decided not to run in 94, the democrats split as a party allowing Rowland to win. After that, the dem's were not able to field a candidate that could compete with Rowland.

3. sad
A sad story, actually. If we sent a good candidate out there and he or she was supported by the other Democrats in the state, the candidate would win fairly easily most of the time. But, last time around, we ran a decent candidate in Bill Curry, but the state Democrats basically hung him out to dry.

4. That's for sure---Curry is a smart guy and had Rowland totally pegged,
but many of the state dems are awful and didn't do a thing to support him. Clinton came out for a great rally in Hartford--but it was too late. I loved it when Rowland's scandal came out and Curry said he was getting a bumpersticker that said, "Don't blame me, I voted for me."
