Senate Campaign Takes Shape
Lieberman hires fund-raisers; GOP looks for challenger

By LOLITA C. BALDOR
Published on 1/27/2005

Washington — For the fourth time in five years, Sen. Joe Lieberman is launching a bid for office, and a recent poll shows Connecticut Republicans may have a tough time fielding a challenger.

The popular three-term Democrat has begun hiring campaign staff to raise money for his re-election race in 2006, and he will attend one of his first fund-raisers Thursday night in Washington.

And while he has spent a significant chunk of the last five years running for the White House, Connecticut residents — by an enormous margin — approve of the job he is doing.

In a Quinnipiac University poll released earlier this month, 73 percent of the registered Connecticut Republicans surveyed gave him a thumbs up — a percentage point higher than the approval rating he got from Democrats, but within the margin of sampling error.

1. The truth is the Republicans already have their candidate.
Can't we find a good Democrat to run against him?

2. Considering that 72% of Democrats approve of the job he is doing
it doesn't appear likely.

3. Actually No.
Quoted from NPR:

In Quinnipiac’s most recent poll of Connecticut voters, Lieberman received a near all-time low job approval rating of 52 percent. But Schwartz says Lieberman needs to be equally concerned about another trend. Over the past six months, the Senator has lost 20 points, while former Vermont Governor Howard Dean has picked up 20 points in a primary match-up. Dean is gaining ground in the state in large part due to his attacks on President Bush’s policies.

We are fed up with Joe. Joe has gotta go. I would honestly have an empty seat from CT than to have Joe in office. Joe has gotta go.

7. Please then.
Could you do as you asked me and supply a link? Further what connection if any do you have to Mr. Lieberman?

I would be interested to see a poll him up against a "random democrat" or even Mr. Weiker. I think the only reason his approval rating is rising is that he is a Dem so he MUST oppose the Bush regime. But he doesn't. He should wear red not blue.

Heck if the GOP runs an anti war anti Bush Republican against him I'd have to seriously consider who to vote for. =(

If they run a liberal anti-bush republican against him I will not only vote against Joe but campaign against him with a "Democrats for XYZ" sign.

All that article does is prove that Joey is a DINO not worthy to hold office. 73% of Republicans support him?
Further please answer my question. I asked if you had any ties to Mr. Lieberman.

Thanks

12. Let's try the quote again

The numbers you asked for are there.

14. Thats not what I asked.
But the round about method of your answering now really has me interested. You are saying you have no other connection to Joe other than voting for him?

20. Time to go Joe
Joe has over $400,000 in his war chest. Unless we can show another Democrat that he will have national support to get rid of DINO Joe, we can't get someione real to run. That's why I started the pledge page at http://www.timetogojoe.com/ It's time to start raising pledges for someone from OUR party to get DINO Joe back to CT year round.

8. If the repukes were smart -- they would run Shays.
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 07:08 PM by DODI
He is more to the left than Joey on foreign policy and sticks it to the shrub whenever he gets a chance. We could then get a Dem in his district and add one more to the House. If Shays won, it wouldn't be so bad, if he lost -- we would keep our two dem Senate seats and add a House seat. Can you run the House and the Senate at the same time?

18. Damn. If only Nader hadn't done another presidential campaign.
He could have been a strong anti-Lieberman candidate(and, unlike Dean, Ralph actually IS a Connecticuit resident.

19. Shays has said he won't challenge Lieberman
Johnson is afraid to challenge him and lose her comfy seat in Congress... Simmons is not nearly strong enough to challenge Lieberman. Rell may be able to do it if she keeps up with the media honeymoon. But, then the Republicans have nobody to challenge for governor...
