I live in Stratford CT and unfortunately Joe is my Senator. I wrote to him and complained about his vote on Condi and here was his reply and my retort afterwords. --Kevin
Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:
Thank you for contacting me regarding changes in the Administration's
cabinet, specifically your concerns regarding the confirmation of Dr.
Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State. I appreciate the time you took to
share your views with me.
The Constitution of the United States did not include language regarding
a President's advisory group; however, by the early 1790s the term
"cabinet" was used as a term for the President's top advisor's.
Historically, and today, cabinet members are each appointed by the
President and subject to confirmation by the Senate. Cabinet members
serve at the will of the President and may be replaced at any time.
Traditionally, during a change of administration, cabinet members formally
resign – though they may remain in office until a successor is appointed.
Similarly, when an incumbent president enters his second term, many
cabinet members resign. Currently, nine members of the Bush Cabinet have
resigned.
I have always taken the Senate's advice and consent role very seriously,
especially when it comes to cabinet appointments. As you may know, the
Succession Act of 1947 outlines the order in which the Presidency is
filled, should there become a vacancy. The succession order includes
cabinet members in the chronological order by which their departments were
created. Each individual Senator, myself included, has an obligation to
make sure that he or she carefully considers each appointee and votes to
confirm only if he or she believes this person can carry out the duties
associated with the respective department. I have reviewed Dr. Rice's
testimony and experience and found her qualified to fulfill the
responsibilities of the position for which she has been confirmed. I do
not have to agree with every action she has taken or opinion she holds to
reach this judgment. For a copy of my full statement on the nomination

My official Senate web site is designed to be an on-line office that
provides access to constituent services, Connecticut-specific information,
and an abundance of information about what I am working on in the Senate
on behalf of Connecticut and the nation. I am also pleased to let you
know that I have launched an email news update service through my web
site. You can sign up for that service by visiting

informative and useful.
Thank you again for letting me know your views and concerns. Please
contact me if you have any additional questions or comments about our work
in Congress.
Sincerely,
Joe Lieberman

My reply:
Hon. Senator Lieberman,
How does lying qualify one for job advancement let alone for the lofty
position as Secretary Of State? Dr. Rice Lied to the President and to
the American people on multiple occasions. I find it disgusting that you consider this a worthy trait and one that makes her qualified to fulfill the responsibilities of the position? Your litmus test for leadership must different than I was brought up to believe in.
Sincerely,
Kevin
