Perhaps we should start looking for someone to groom right now.

1. No shot. Delaware politics doesn't work that way.
Carper paid his dues and waited his turn, and unless a republican takes his seat it is his until he doesn't want it.

2. And a black man won't be president in our lifetime...
I know how our system is structured, but it isn't an immutable law of nature. I think the dynamics are different than in the past and the son of a bitch is seriously over-reaching. If the right person can be found and we can start making the case now then at the very least it will have the same effect as the conservative base has had on Specter.

I'm so angry I could spit.

3. Lifelong Delawarean here

...and while I understand your point, I can't figure out what voter Carper thinks he's trying to keep.

Maybe we have a "new kind of politics" that we should try, because it's time for Tom to find another career.

Long past time.

4. It is time, but Carper or that ditz repub - I'll take Carper.
At this point, it comes down to the lesser of two evils right now. A DLCer who's buttcrack is riding down the center line who occasionally throws liberal Dems a bone or a repub who wants to bring Reaganomics into the 21st century and will take all the bones from both sides of the aisle and throw them to the Fundie/R2Lifers.
