"Call Delaware Governor Markell: Don’t Drill the Delaware
November 13, 2011
by Iris Marie Bloom
Friends, please call Gov. Markell now: (302) 744-4101. The fate of the Delaware River watershed hangs in the balance, just days before the November 21st vote which could allow high-volume slickwater hydraulic fracturing with horizontal drilling (HVHF, popularly known as “fracking”) to begin in a huge at-risk watershed which is a national treasure. A “NO” vote from Delaware Governor Markell is essential. If New York, Delaware, and the Obama Administration (represented by the Army Corps of Engineers) all vote “no fracking” and refuse to approve the new, terribly non-protective Delaware River Basin Commission rules, we win. Air-breathers and water-drinkers win; public health and science win; future generations who would have had to cope with the toxic mess win; sane energy and safe jobs win; the 99% win."
I'll be calling my guv Tom Corbett, of course, but he's a bone-headed, pro-fracking idiot. We're counting on cooler heads to prevail at the 11/21 meeting. Thank you, Delaware forum, for letting me post this info.
