We should prevent wealthy gov reps from taking payouts on gov pension plans (and yes, I also mean Social Security). And just how loud do you think they would yell if they were to have their pensions reduced?

As posted to the Delaware forum today:

Castle wealthiest of Del. delegation
By JENNIFER BROOKS / News Journal Washington Bureau
06/16/2005
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Mike Castle still ranks as the wealthiest member of the Delaware congressional delegation.

The Republican lawmaker drew a $158,100 salary from the House of Representatives last year, but that was dwarfed by the millions of dollars in investments, property and other assets listed in his annual financial disclosure statement released Wednesday.

(snip)

The former Delaware governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and state legislator also collected $37,165 from his state pension.

1. Elected officials shouldn't get pensions at all
their terms should be limited by a constitutional amendment as well

2. I couldn't agree more. Remember when it was a service to your country?
I've also been a long time advocate of term limits for congresspeople but with so much else going on in our world it seems impossible that we'll ever be able to get them to address such issues.
