WASHINGTON --
Bank of America's buyout of MBNA could cut off politicians in Delaware and Washington from one of their most generous sources of campaign cash.Since 1999, MBNA and its employees have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to Delaware's congressional delegation, according to campaign finance records.
In those same years, the company showered millions on federal candidates and national political parties as it lobbied hard for the passage of legislation that would crack down on bankrupt credit card holders.

MBNA has surpassed Enron as the single largest donor to George W. Bush, funneling more than $605,041 to the president over his career, according to studies by the campaign finance watchdog group the Center for Public Integrity. MBNA gave more than $1.5 million to federal candidates, political action committees and parties in 2004 alone.
