The saltpeter refinery of DuPont's Hagley Yards in Wilmington exploded with 30 tons of powder destroying 50 houses, killing 13 people and injuring 20 others. The company gave $500 apiece to survivors and $100 per year for five years. The impact of the event was felt 89 miles away in Georgetown; Delaware1950 After capturing the National League baseball pennant, R. R. M. “Ruly” Carpenter, Jr.’s "Whiz Kids" Phillies fell in the World Series to the New York Yankees in 4 games and became the "Whuz Kids".

So far as I know the Phillies were never stationed in Delaware, and I'm absolutely sure the Yankees have never been anywhere but NYC.
