The DuPont Co. today announced a five-year real estate plan that will make Chestnut Run Plaza its largest Delaware employment center, a move the company said will make room for anticipated increased hiring.

The plan involves sale of the 100-acre Barley Mill Plaza campus at Del. 141 and Lancaster Pike near Greenville. The 24-building campus goes on the market today. It was developed beginning in 1978.

When Barley Mill is sold, approximately 2,200 people now working there will be relocated next door to the 220-acre Chestnut Run Plaza. Three new office buildings will be constructed to accommodate the move.

Development of Chestnut Run began in 1952. Total employment there is 2,300. With the addition of the Barley Mill employees, it will be the company’s single largest employment site in Delaware.
