Biden ends his long-shot run
Biden ends his long-shot run
After hoping for late surge, Del. Democrat gets 1 percent of vote
By NICOLE GAUDIANO, News Journal Washington Bureau

Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., ended his run for the Democratic nomination for president after getting just 1 percent of Iowa caucus-goers to support him.

In a speech to supporters with his tearful wife, Jill, at his side, Biden declared, "I ain't going away."

"I'll be going back to the Senate as the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and I will continue to make the case I've been making," he said.

He said he would continue to insist that Congress keep its commitment to men and women in harm's way.

"I will be their worst nightmare if they do not," he said with 14 family members, some teary-eyed, standing behind him at a caucus rally.

2. Oh, geez...

I had a moment of embarrassment there, before I realized the thread was bumped by that guy who is plugging that Iowa race on all the state boards had chimed in.

I ran into Joe at the bank the other day and mentioned that I almost voted for him anyway in the DE primary, and then I sawthis headline today at the top of the DE forum...

3. "ran into Joe at the bank"...
One of the reasons I wanted to vote for Joe is my sense that he's a regular guy - one you might run into in the bank or grocery store :)

4. It's a small state

It's not unusual to run into our sole congressman and two senators at any number of places. I used to commute to Philadelphia early in the morning, and any Wilmington rail commuter runs into our entire DC delegation on a pretty regular basis - there are only three platforms at the station. The metroliner to DC takes about an hour and a half, so it's a comfortable commute.

He's a regular guy. A mite large on the ego, but otherwise pretty normal.
