Question for Delaware Democrats:
First congratulations on the choice of Biden. I heard him speaking on Iraq and I will have no trouble getting behind him, and I think America as a whole will rejoice at the choice.

If, however, Biden is running for Vice-President, it raises a question you should be thinking about. namely:

What Democrat will be running for Biden's seat in the Senate.

This is, in fact, a very important question, it is for you to answer, and you should start thinking about it immediately.

And again, congratulations.

1. Delaware law allows him to run for both
I don't know if he will yet, but he is allowed to run for his senate seat. If he wins the VP then the Gov. will select his successor until a special election can be held.

Another possibility is that he withdraws from the Senate race, and in that case, the likely appointee and candidate will be the loser in our Dem governors Primary. (if the Gov appoints, it will still likely be the loser of the Dem Gov. primary in Sept.

2. Here's where I'm not clear....

First, Biden won't withdraw from the Senate race. I don't think any national candidate ever does that.

But I am curious about one thing...

When, specifically, does Minner's term end? I believe in DE, the state terms end after the national terms of Jan. 20th. So is Minner going to appoint a successor in any event, or would that appointment be made by the new governor.

I do agree with you though - it looks as if the real prize is going to be in *losing* the gubernatorial primary.

Then... the crazy in me says - appoint Beau, just to drive DE repugs crazy.

3. I think whomever doesn't get the governor job will end up the new senator

I've been supporting Jack Markell but honestly - I would love to have him as my senator over Jim Carney, who is a bit to Carperish in my opinion. One Tom Carper is enough for this gal.

I don't know if Beau Biden will be available to serve his dad's position - I mean the guy is going to be in Iraq for the year. Can we have a sitting US Senator actually serving in war at the same time - that could be interesting. They don't mention about apointing Hunter, who is currently serving a position with Amtrak (oddly enough appointed by George Bush but then again Bidens have kept Amtrak alive). So it's probably down to Carney or Markell since the winner of our primary will end up being governor (I don't see Bill Lee even coming close in that race).

4. Indeed, one Carper is too many

I have no idea what happened to him.

What's Karen Petersen up to these days?

5. Trouble is...

Our governor is likely to be more driven by cronyism than wisdom.
