I understand that hurricane season starts around June, but how is the weather otherwise from June thru August?

1. Hot and humid
in central florida. Afternoon storms which cool it down a bit but humidity is miserable. Now is when it is beautiful and usually up till the first few weeks in May. It is 74 and gorgeous today.
Hope you have a wonderful visit!

2. The interior from Ocala to Lakeland is hottest...
The coasts are coolest. There is a ridge running N-S and east of the St. Johns River where you can experience easterlies when on the eastern side. Just 5 miles to the west and it's sultry.

Recommendation: get a motel in High Springs or Gainesville and you are within 90 minutes of either coast and short drives from the Suwanee, Ichetucknee and Santa Fe Rivers; many lakes, the U. of Florida's offerings and "Hogtown's" music scene. Don't forget Payne's Prairie if you want to walk amid lots of really big alligators. Very beautiful drives on two-lanes 'twixt G'ville, Ocala, Cross Creek (M.K. Rawlings' home). Be aware that Florida is experiencing a bad drought.
