we went to the Keys and Silver Springs. This was in '55.

1. wild guess here -
Could it possibly be Sarasota?

The circus graphics on the wall and being able to read "f the American" makes me think it might be of the American - and taking it further out - "Home of the American" Circus?

I'm looking for images to compare on the building, but no luck so far.

3. I don't know for sure
and I have not been to silver springs in years, but they do have zebras there so looking at the painted pics I would pick that over the keys. I can't see the background clearly enough but it seemm kind of circus themed? Maybe a small roadside circus?

4. I grew up just south of Sarasota
picture doesn't ring a bell. Sarasota was the headquarters of the Ringling Bros Barnum and Baily Circus - no "of the American" in the title. That could be a picture of a small playground, circus animals would be typical childrens decoration of the era. Pretty heavy shadows from trees in the photo -Oak?, Pine? anyway, doesn't look like the Keys to me, but possibly Silver Springs.

6. One other place to consider aside from Sarasota ...

Gibsonton. In the off season a lot of the travelling shows spent time there and some of the performers even retired there and opened up circus/carnie related businesses. It was a popular spot for them in '55 but not so much today. It is on the east side of Tampa Bay, and it would be in a path enroute from Key West to Silver Springs.

Good luck in finding out.
