3. I think I know where the disconnect comes from.
The latino and black vote for Obama, didn't automatically translate to progressive ideals that support gay rights. I can tell you from the latino side, there are still old world beliefs. Chauvinism or machismo all translate into a very hetero male ideal. Not always supportive of feminine rights, either.

2. Maybe they voted for amendment 2 and maybe they didn't
I've long held that in 2000, 2004, etc there was NO WAY to vote for Bush, against Castor, for the school tax increase, and against the local GOP dog catcher like we saw in Pinellas, Sarasota, etc. It happened again this week!

The precinct patterns in Florida; from Jennings to Buchanan to any other you want to name don't make sense unless you consider that some precincts were hacked!

I don't believe that amendment 2 won with 62%. I believe that someone set up the count to win at 62%.

4. Churches Helped get out the Yes Votes
The twist this time was that many of the African-American congregations who helped with the heavy turnout that worked to the advantage of most Democratic candidates, on this issue, voted in sync with the generally conservative-Republican congregations. Co-workers and acquaintances of mine told me it was being pushed big time in their churches. Ironic.

From The Bilerico Project:

"Yes2Marriage, the "Yes on 2" campaign, made a concerted effort to make a "yes" vote seem like the Christian vote. They quoted scripture in TV commercials, made "sample sermons" available on their website, and sold $275 'Church Action Kits' to pastors and priests across the state."

and this article quotes clergy on subject:
