Who would you like to see take on Extremist Mel Martinez in 2010?

According to Draft Alex Sink ...some of the contenders include:

Soon to be State Senator Dan Gelber
Mayor Pam Iorio
Congressman Ron Klein
Congressman Bob Wexler
Congressman Allan Boyd

Wexler would be awesome, but would not stand a chance IMO, Iorio might be a good choice, and Boyd would be another DINO to complement Nelson. Not sure about Klein or Gelber.

I could also see Sink, Bob Butterworth, Jim Davis, Kathy Castor or *holds nose* Debbie Wasserman-Schultz running....

1. Wasserman-Shultz for Senate. Alex Sink for Governor.
We have a very weak bench and we need to build a party from the grassroots. We need to get people elected to the Florida House and Senate. That is my big concern.

3. Meh. She's the liberal liberals love to hate. I think she'd be a great senator.
Her voting record in the House is absolutely sterling. Yeah, there's the problems during the campaign season, but for Florida to have someone with her voting record as a senator would be a godsend.

6. The not living in Florida thing could do him in, though.
If not for that he would be fairly untouchable. I like him a lot. Few Dems proudly use--and promote--the term liberal, but he is one of them.

7. It might not matter...

Our governor Charlie has always been about positioning himself for another quick move up. We're all amused or disgusted by his seeming lack of interest in actually staying in Tallahassee for more than 24 hours at a time to tend to actual state issues.
If Martinez's GOP star continues to fade, I could see Crist being recruited to run for that seat. With the thin Democratic bench, I think it's his if that happens. Though he's perceived as a career opportunist and lightweight, he remains very well liked, benefitting greatly, in terms of personal charisma and ability to "play well with others," from the stark contrast with his predecessor, JEB!

8. Actually, this might helps Dems in the long term.
It would allow Sink to win governor which would help Dems continue build our party in this state. In the meantime, lightweight Charlie Crist would be manhandled in the Senate. He'd be a one term Senator. Of course, I do think Wexler might have a chance against Martinez.

9. True, A Democrat having a shot at the governorship again would be huge...
and could be the best scenario longer-term.
If Crist stays put however, and Martinez does run for re-election,
Wexler with his solid party connections, would seem to be the best
candidate to go head to head with him...

(Isn't it nice to be able to see positive possibilities, for a change?!)
