TAMPA, FL -- What may have been intended for close friends, an email sent by Hillsborough Republican Party Committeewoman Carol Carter found its way to many others, causing her to resign her position with the party.
The email was forwarded to eight of Carol Carter's friends that reads: "I'm confused. How can 2 million Blacks get into Washington D.C. in subzero temperatures when 2 hundred thousand couldn't get out of New Orleans in 84 degree temps with 4 days notice?"
Carter said she didn't see it as a joke against African Americans but rather a slam against FEMA's failed efforts to evacuate New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina. She thought they should look for the man who arranged the inauguration and FEMA should hire him.
Regardless of her intent or interpretation, the fallout was tremendous, causing the woman who spent 46 years with the Republican Party to leave it all behind.
NAACP President Curtis Stokes who calls Carter a friend says the email was inappropriate. He said, "You can't brush off racism or sexism, you can't brush that off."
