Your children are about to be going to test prep centers.
If another Senate Bill 6 comes up, teachers need to be willing to work to the contract. No grading papers late at night. No sponsoring clubs. No coaching. Work only what the contract says. We must make the public aware of what the Republicans are doing.
If the union does not start calling for drastic action and preparing teachers BEFORE the next legislative session, I will drop out. This union needs to work harder at getting pro-public education candidates elected!

1. this union is among the weakest I have ever seen |
|
my wife is a member - and they are spineless. Time for some new, responsive leadership.

2. I might have to agree with you |

I saw an article in the Palm Beach Post about the Teachers not voting in this election in Florida. I'm still trying to figure out why. I guess they really liked SB6 and want it around. Because now they have a bigger majority in the Senate and the Governor. Bye-Bye.
Oh and it's not just the Teacher's Union - it's all unions. Unions are dead in Florida. Maybe that's what we need again in this country. We need people to rise up against the Corporations. It's the only way we can fight back and get real wages in this country again.

3. real wages and a little respect for the teachers |
|
Their treatment for the past few years has been beyond the pale.
My wife buys all her supplies out of her pocket - and works for hours each evening and hour after hour during the weekends doing her planning and grading papers.
There is not another job that demands that of its workers.

4. A teacher here in FL who taught in NY many years ago told me that they went on strike. |
|
Striking by civil servants was illegal. The teachers went on strike regardless. I say that teachers in FL ought to walk out en masse when another bill like SB6 comes along. The general public really has no idea that teachers can bring society to a halt. Teachers are looked at by too many as baby sitters. Schools are a place to send kids to have them supervised. Teachers really hold a lot of power but unfortunately don't throw around their weight.

5. Do youu really think that teachers will "work to the contract" if they know that |
|
their pay will be affected by test scores and principal evaluations?
