Washington political consulting firm Devine Mulvey filed suit in Miami on Friday against former Democratic Senate candidate Jeff Greene, alleging he owes $394,000 for last-ditch media efforts to save his campaign.
Greene, meanwhile, responded that he had a right to challenge the charges.
Greene, who is a real estate billionaire, hired Devine Mulvey 28 days before the Aug. 24 primary election for the Florida Senate seat, after polls began showing that Greene was trailing his opponent, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the suit alleges.
“Greene brought them in, and they gave it all they had,” said Devine Mulvey’s attorney, Larry Bassuk of Miami-based Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine. “From the word go, they had to move mountains to accomplish the amount of work they achieved. Greene, in writing, said they were doing a great job.”
