For last Democrat standing, a road of resistance
TALLAHASSEE -- Sen. Bill Nelson has been here before -- the lone statewide Democrat in a red sea of Republicanism.

After telling reporters Wednesday that he'll definitely run again for reelection in 2012, Nelson said he's not too concerned with the results of November's elections, which swept Republicans into office throughout Florida and the rest of the country.

``My brand of politics is where Florida is,'' Nelson said. ``Florida's not . . . to the extreme, either to the right or left. Florida politics is one of moderation.''

Republicans say Nelson is anything but a centrist, noting his vote for President Barack Obama's healthcare bill, his support of Obama's stimulus plan and his vote on the unpopular bank bailout.

1. there's a good chance he'll get my vote.
he does support some democratic ideals but gets no where near liberal left ones. I've been chewing his ear for the past 3 years and I think he knows my name by now and how I feel about things like the Iraq war, support for vets, the corporatation of America and a few others.

Sadly, there's not another to take his place here in central floriduh.

2. Hey, Freddie
I've been perusing the Florida Forum for awhile because the spouse and I are thinking

of moving there (We live in Chicago area, where it is subfreeaing and HAS been since Christmas)

and just want a Floridians opinion of what the BLUEST areas of Florida might be...We

know enough to keep away from the Panhandle.....Thanks for your help, I know I'm kind of

"changing the subject"...but I saw your sentence re: "a red sea of Republicanism" and it

brought this question to mind...Thanks.

3. Broward County is the largest of the very blue counties
Broward is where Fort Lauderdale is located. Alachua is also very blue (because of the University of Florida), but it is a much less populous area.
