Early days yet but possible move pending. I can do usual searches on realtor and city-data but inside scoop would be good.
1) Looking at houses in 250k range. Tons out there. Any neighborhoods to seek or avoid? Don't have to worry about school districts. Not paranoid about crime but not blase either. I am an unashamed suburbanite so want yard/garage. Would be nice to be close to amenities though. Couple houses around this neighborhood look ok.
http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/298-Northwest-83rd-Lane_Coral-Springs_FL_33071_M66327-61267 NW80s Coral Springs. but may have drawbacks. Not committed. Diversity is great, quiet is great, but also interested in road maintenance, upkeep, etc.
2) Property taxes, while all much lower than the insane NY ones I am used to, vary widely in this range from mid 2s to mid 4s (I am used to about 8!). School districts? Resets? Not too worried about these more curious.
3) To finish with taxes (not really obssessed with them just the hardest thing to nail down about another state) I know the basics but even in FL there has to be some way for govt to get revenue and with no income and moderate property taxes I wonder where it comes from. Can't all be rental cars and hotel rooms surely. What about registering cars etc? What's expensive here??
4) I ashamedly know bugger all about Cuban culture but assume it to be quite strong this close to Miami. What's to seek out or avoid in the area for exposure to this and any other cultural offerings? I am not one to blanket discard chain stores etc but I do enjoy variety and uniqueness too.
5) It'sd DU so I have to ask - voter results show area solid Dem but any reactionary rw enclaves to avoid?
