LAKELAND | The Occupy Wall Street campaign that began in New York has inspired plans for a similar event in Lakeland.
A Facebook page for "Occupy Lakeland" says a gathering is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday in the Munn Park area, followed by a march down South Florida Avenue.
Occupy Lakeland is a "stand against corporate greed," held in unison with the protests on Wall Street and around the country, according to the Facebook page.
"We are for equality and human rights. We are against corruption on a federal, state, and local level," the page reads. "We bring this protest to a local level by bringing attention to Lakeland Electric and their monopolistic hold on our energy market." ...
