By Stan, I mean Stan Hardegree, the "editor," of the small-town "newspaper," called the Villa Rica Voice.
Now he's calling Walter Cronkite a drunk and a "socialist."
So long, Dan
BY STAN HARDEGREE
An open letter to Dan Rather:
Dear Dan,
I remember watching Walter Cronkite’s last broadcast from the anchor desk at the CBS Evening News in 1981. He said his retirement was merely a "passing of the baton" to you, supposedly a journalist from Texas.
We have subsequently learned that "the most trusted man in America," is, in reality, a drunken, loud-mouthed socialist, but at the time, I wondered if you had to stuff to take his place.
The few times I have actually watched you work over the years have been interesting experiences. From your sweaters to your goofy looking flat top to your ending nightly broadcasts with the word "courage," you have been entertaining. What you haven’t been is a good example to budding reporters. You are not a good example because 1) your politics influences your reporting and 2) you are a liar.
(snip)
Bad as he was, you are no Cronkite.
