Proposed statewide pit bull ban in Georgia
This was posted at one of my animal rescue groups message boards. I am concerned because I have a Rottweiler and if this ban goes through, my dog's breed could be next. I am also posting this in the Pets forum.

Proposed statewide pit ban

If you're against this, you need to start contacting your legislators and let them know. Here's the legislation and below this is info on who to contact.
http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/fulltext/hb78.htm

EVERYONE needs to write letters to the assembly regarding this. This is not a fix to a problem, it only allows irresponsible pet owners to put the blame where it doesn't belong, on innocent animals. The problem with pit bulls is crappy owners. Also, the types of owners causing problems are usually criminals, so they won't obey the ban anyway. If this law passes it won't stop at pit bulls! Your Rottweilers, German Shepards, Dobermans, etc may be next! PLEASE HELP US FIGHT THIS LAW. Please write letters to these representatives. If you need help writing letters or tips please visit
PBRC's BSL page:

Also at bottom of page is a WSB radio poll.

1. They should just require licenses for dogs over a certain weight.
Make people go through a program or something. The problem is all the people mistreating their animals.
Paris Hilton has her fashion accesory chihuahua and thugs and rednecks have their fashion accesory pit bulls. Animals aren't accesories dammit!

2. Pit Bull OWNERS should be held responsible
I've met many super sweet Pit Bulls, and many asshole Pit Bulls who got that way because the owners sucked. Maybe we should require Pit Bull owners to be licensed. That would weed out the owners who don't give a damn about training their dogs.

3. The problem is large dogs and irresponsible owners!
often the kind of person who wants a pit bull is the problem, not the dog.

4. Pitbulls
do have a reactionary way of dealing with blood. For example, my 2 dogs once were playing with me, got a bit too rough, i bled, yelled owww and some profanity, turned into a love fest from them, they looked all pitiful and sorry, supposedly a bit pull is driven genetically by the taste of blood.

5. They can be so lovable..and those faces..ha!
But...some folks want them only for their status...and use them in the worse way...too bad, really!

7. that's bullshit
dogs are dogs - pits are just a breed. some breeds are known for certain personality traits, but it's all in how you train them. if I yell "owww and some profanity" my pit bull comes up to make sure I'm ok.

10. A-freaking-men!
The worst bite I've ever gotten was from a Golden Retreiver. Leave the Pits alone- make irresponsible dog owners pay.

6. At one time, I had a pit bull.
They are wonderful dogs. But from personal experience, I can tell you that they are not to be trusted around little children.

9. did you socialize them
with little children? generally dogs do not understand that little children are more fragile than adults unless you teach them.

11. small children and pits
I have two small children and a pit bull that is like our third child, of course when we were thinking about getting her, everyone was like, don't get one she will bite and attack and just be mean. well, we are GOOD dog owners and we actually did research on the breed, and the breeder. We choose this breed due to its loyalty, activity, strength, size, you name it. It is a wonderful breed. This dog has not even been rough with our children and our children like to pull her tail, ride her like a horse, etc. ( they are four and two years old) We had to have our Min Pin put down due to his excessive biting.(not as much research into that one) Our vet has even told us that he has seen only one mean pit in his 15 years of practice, but sees about eleven mean chihuahuas a day! Its just like people, its in how you are raised!!

Amen to that. This is just another instance of trying to control the people of Georgia.
