I live in Woodstock and it is solid ice here. All the branches on the trees surrounding my house are hanging dangerously low. Don't dare drive because all the streets are iced over and the county just doesn't have the equipment to de-ice all the streets. Even if the roads were safe, I couldn't get into my car. The doors are frozen shut.

and remember the big Snowfall which occurred in March of that year. I think it was 15 inches of snow which started falling about noon on a Saturday.

5. Yes, I remember it well. |

It is now called the blizzard of '93. And weather like that only happens about every 100 years here in the South. But we still have the ice storms at least every once a year. Believe me, I would rather have a blizzard than an ice storm. At least it is only snow. Ice can be a real bitch.

9. I was in Germany then... |
|
...and recall the Atlanta-iced-over story on the fron page of Stars & Stripes.
But I was here in the winter of '95. That week of ice made Saturday's look a bit pitiful. But I worked from home that day.

Some of the ice is starting to thaw out - our power was out for over an hour, but came back on a short while ago. Still pretty nasty throughout. Hope everyone is safe and warm!

power outages. I am keeping my fingers crossed, as I have quite a few trees around my house that are so caked with ice that they are hanging quite dangerously over power lines.

...with ice scattered here and there (west of town). I was able to telecommute yesterday during my regular shift. Lost power (Greystone) for about three hours early Saturday evening.
Almost all of our trees are still bent over, but they no longer block the driveway.
