For GA people - House Min Leader - AAR 2pm - talking about new "Hawks"
From AJC's Political Insider -

Because he's good enough, he's smart enough, and gosh darn it, people like him.

House Minority Leader DuBose Porter of Dublin has landed a spot on Al Franken's national radio talk show, part of the liberal Air America network, at 2 p.m. today. The topic will be the hawk system that House Republicans have established, which allows designees of the speaker to cast votes on any committee, at any time. In Atlanta, you can hear Porter on WWAA (AM1690). In preparation, Democrats have set up a new web site: nohawks.com.

1. Thanks for the heads up Ruby!
I've got AAR streaming now. I hope that the rest of the country will be made aware of what is happening here in Georgia. Beware: it could be your state next.

disgusting thing I have ever heard about in government (after W's election, of course!) Hope you guys in Georgia can do something about this. I was just about to post the website. Good luck!

On January 10, 2005, the Speaker of the Georgia
House, convinced legislators to pass a rule giving him
absolute power to win every vote, in every committee
that comes though the State House of Representatives.
Not just his party. Him.

This power, the power of a dictator, does not exist in
any other state in these United States. Not now, not
ever. All he needs to control every vote are his Hawks.
(Hawks is their term. It is even on their name badges.)

The Speaker’s Hawks are floaters. They may vote in
any committee, at any time, on any piece of legislation
at the discretion of the speaker. The fact that the Hawks
only vote at the discretion on the speaker is where the
dictatorship part comes in. And none of them have to
listen to all the lengthy discussion.

3. Isn't this complete and utter crap?
People think we're kidding when we try to tell them how bad it's getting here. I'm pretty sure that BushCo. is pretty proud of these assholes, I mean "hawks".

Personally, I think they take after our other Hawks here in Atlanta - those complete losers moonlighting as a professional basketball team. All Hawks suck! :P

4. Can GA Democrats pull a Texas...?
... and deny a quorum in the legislature? It sounds like this is what is needed. Such an abuse of power must be answered forcefully, and if the Dems can do it, they should.
