Need to Engineer a State Recall Election? Call FOX News!
(Posted late due to computer problems.) In two previous posts (O'Reilly Targets First African-American DA in Georgia and Is Bill O'Reilly Meddling in Georgia Politics?) I pointed out that it appears that FOX News host Bill O'Reilly has decided to bring aid and comfort to the Republican party in Georgia. By bad-mouthing popular Atlanta District Attorney Paul Howard, who ran UNOPPOSED in the last election, and by giving a national platform to Shannon Goessling, who lost her own bid to become Georgia's State Attorney General, O'Reilly has clearly crossed the line from commentary to direct interference in state politics on the side of the GOP. Last week he called for Howard's recall and on March 2, 2005 Ms. Goessling echoed him.

...snip...

Dr. Michael Baden is paid by the FOX News Channel. If you read his comments carefully, he says nothing more than that Destiny Ashe was killed by blunt force trauma to the head by person or persons unknown.

As for Shannon Goessling, she's a disappointed office seeker. She didn't get elected as Georgia State Attorney General, so she's decided she'll take Paul Howard's job instead.

Moral of the story? If you can't win an election, no problem.

FOX News will help you to manufacture a recall election!

I posted this for you Atlanta area DUers. I've got a Rethuglican County Commissioner fighting with my Western Judicial Circuit Democratic DA at this moment. The Rethuglican is trying to kick the DA's staff out of its current Oconee County office and is reneging on the agreed upon plan to move offices (move both office and grand jury to third floor of Oconee Co. courthouse.) The Commission Chair (Davis) wants the Grand Jury room to be on the second floor and the DAs office s to be on the third floor in an isolated corner of the building. The courthouse (which I go to quite often) has only metal detectors and no x-ray machines to screen visitors. It is very easy to get weapons into the Courthouse. I've gotten a pocketknife in before (By mistake - forgot about it being deep in my purse which they don't metal detect! They just sort of look in them and ask if you've got any weapons. Doh!)
:wtf:

My DA (Ken Mauldin) delivered a total smackdown (in the form of an scathing 8 page letter) to Oconee County Commission Chair, Melvin Davis (R). He's not moving to the third floor unless Davis sticks to his original deal to also move the Grand Jury room to the third floor as well. Otherwise, he's gonna pull up stakes and move all staff back to the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse. I spoke with Ken on Friday. Mauldin's main concerns are security and safety for staff and victims and the secrecy of the Grand Jury process. He thinks that Davis thought he (Mauldin) wouldn't be re-elected and promised the purpose-designed and built DA's office space (directly adjacent to the Grand Jury room by way of an interior door) to the Finance Dept. WTF? Why do they want the Grand Jury room directly connected to the Finance Dept.? :wtf:

FYI: Mauldin's 2000 campaign promise was to open the first ever satellite office in Oconee Co., which he did do right away.

This was front page, above the fold news in Friday's Athens Banner-Herald newspaper.

Ya'll keep fighting the good fight over there. I'm trying to keep abreast of the Rethuglican dirty tricks over here in Athens and Oconee County.

2. You're welcome.
O'Leilly is a real piece of work. The lasr thing we need here in GA is to have him meddling with our Democratic DAs.
