1. Don't know about this judge, but they're looking for the shooter right
Edited on Fri Mar-11-05 10:25 AM by RubyDuby in GA
near where I work. I work a couple of blocks from CNN and the GA Dome/Phillips Arena and they are swarming around here. Helicopters, tons of sirens. Saw the ambulance go by for the shooting victims.

:scared:

2. Partly a result of...
All the poison in the water about "activist judges". It erodes societal respect for sitting judges. Then, you get stuff like this.

I suspect that you will be seeing more of this sort of thing. A lot of people seem to think that the door has been thrown open for them, to do as they please with their prejudices and angers.

You cannot have it both ways: You cannot loudly trumpet respect for the law and demonize the constitutionally-designated custodians of said law. But, the repukes have built their strategy on just that cornerstone.

3.  when it's obvious our leaders don't respect the law
why should we?

--not that i advocate it; I wish they would respect the law--and resign in shame

6. I work downtown too . . .
but not that close (no helicopters, etc. here). Still scared to go outside.

Now they're saying that 4 are dead - he's still at large. Named Brian Nichols - on trial for rape.

7. Apparently he tried to carjack an AJC reporter.
This is just awful.

Ken Mauldin, the Democratic Western Judicial Circuit DA here in Athens, is currently engaged in a huge fight with the Republican Oconee Co. Commissioner over the lack of security in the Oconee County courthouse. I wonder if this will make Oconee County beef up its security? I have to go to that courthouse all the time. There's no X-Ray machine, only a metal detector and an old, arthritic deputy. They don't even scan you purse. They just look in and ask if you've got any weapons. Like you would tell them if you had any if you were a criminal. I forgot about having a Swiss army knife in my purse and got in with that the other week. Damn.
