How MANY attended the 3/19/05 protests?
Can you update this thread with particulars?

Due to a media blackout, we don't know how many attended.

Per the United for Peace and Justice events calendar and the anti-war vigil listings of the American Friends Service Committee and Sojourners Magazine these were cities that had protests scheduled in your state.

GEORGIA: Adel, Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Decatur, Gainesville, Milledgeville, Savannah, St. Simons, Stone Mountain

I attended a Protest March in Minneapolis, MN. One of several and I know we had 1,500 - which the media reported as "over 1,000" and provided terrible pictures.

The DU has better pics:

2. Minneapolis march...
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 09:57 AM by Pounder
A friend mentioned a rally she attended in Minnesota, that got zero media coverage, btw...it wasn't the Minneapolis one, I don't think...but perhaps in a smaller town? At any rate, she told me that the protesters were all gathered on Main street, demonstrating peacefully. Apparently, the police presence was rather large, especially considering that the rally, though substantial, was not.

The protesters & the police were well apart, and there was no trouble....until a rather disgruntled semi-truck driver, who was stuck on the wrong end of Main street, and could not get through, caused a ruckus. She said that the trucker decided to take matters into his own hands, and after loudly proclaiming his adoration for all things W, got into his truck to run the protesters over, if needs be, so he could proceed along his route.

The police, who, up until then, had remained apart, and unobtrusive, immediately surrounded the semi-truck, and arrested the driver! I tell you this because it's not the usual type of tale one hears when a group of protesters, and the police, have needs to be in a proximity to one another.

It seems we can all use a little good news in these times...even if it is just a little. Good luck to you, and thank you for your service to our country.
