Okay Atlantans......
what do y'all think of making a big DU splash in Georgia?

I just got this from the red clay dems:

6/18- Hosts Needed for "Red State Blues" Red Clay Democrats Fundraiser
Sign up now to be a Host, Patron or Sponsor for the only Red Clay Democrats fundraiser of 2005. The annual fundraiser will be held on Saturday, June 18th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in the white tent at Park Tavern, on Piedmont Park. Hosts, patrons and sponsors agree to raise or contribute $1000 (Host), $500 (Patron) or $250 (Sponsor). Raising funds for your goal can be done via ticket sales or soliciting straight donations to the PAC or a combination of both. Hosts, patrons and sponsors that commit by this Friday, May 27th will be listed on event flyer. All participants will be recognized at the event itself. Please contact Mike Fitzgerald to volunteer as a Host, Sponsor or Patron or to receive more information.

what if we were to make DU or Atlanta members of DU a host, patron or sponsor for this shindig?

really if 10 of us get 10 people each to contribute 10 bucks, we can get a 1,000 bucks easy, or we can just go ahead and sell tickets to this event.....any thoughts?

if you'd like to PM me about it or jsut discuss it here, let's do it!

btw - i currently have no affiliation with the Red Clay dems - I'm just on their mailing list.

1. so we'd go in as a group?
Says yes to me. Would ticket sales be to the event at Piedmont?

I don't know if I'll be able to make it to the park itself - we're moving that next weekend - but I'll do whatever else I can to help out.

2. yeah that's what i was thinking.....
Even if we operate on our own to raise the funds - through our friends family coworkers and such, but give the funds raised as a group - DU Atlantans or whatever, and make sure the website gets mentioned, we give ourselves publicity (because it would be announced that we sponsored).

We can raise the funds by selling tickets ot the event itself or just asking people to contribute $5 here or $10 there to support the event.

3. sounds like a plan to me.
You might send Skinner a PM to make sure it's ok if we use the democraticunderground.com name, but I can't imagine it'd be a problem. You want to write the Red Clay Dems back and commit us? We've got enough folks around here that $1000 should be easy enough.

basically since these are contributions to their PAC - each person has to do it individually through PayPal - but mention Democratic Underground in your submittal, whether buying a ticket or just giving a donation, and we'll get apporpriate credit for the Sponsorship. We also will be mentioned on the Flyer which I will have on Tuesday.

here's the link to their donations page:

pass it on, and let's tell everyone we know!
