Atlantans: Anything I should know about shows at the Botanical Garden?
Do we need to arrive hours early? Is parking impossible, or a problem? Is picnicking permitted? Conversely is it de rigueur? Alternately, can you recommend some late-night place to eat in the vicinity?

Got tickets for Nanci Griffith for my girlfriend's birthday Friday evening. Unfortunately, driving in from Cola SC means that a big splashy dinner (or arriving hours early, for that matter) is a bit out of the question. But we're reeeeeeeeally looking forward to the show.

If anybody's going to the show, look for the confused middle-aged guy sort of looks like John Lennon. Weather permitting, I'll probably be wearing my black Blue Brothers (Grover & Cookie Monster as the Blues Brothers) t-shirt. My picture's in the Gallery and is reasonably representative.

Thanks in advance!

1. We still have a Botanical Gardens?
Dress in lightweight cloths, and I'd bring Bug spray.

Not sure where you park, but I doubt it will be easy.

If you can't make it, let me know, I Love Nancy Griffith.

5. On retrospect, I wish I'd just mailed you the tickets (See #4)
but of course, we had no way of knowing in advance we'd miss the show. Who knew that shows at the Botanical Gardens actually start on time?

2. Parking for a concert.....
.....Is going to be a little tricky.

From what their website says you can park at Colony Square and shuttle to the concert.

Here's the link: http://www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org/events_and_exhibits/event_concerts.htm

Scroll down to the parking data and click on the link for a map.

I know there's Einsteins on Juniper that's a pretty good place to eat....but it's gonna be hopping on a friday night for the fourth of July weekend. Here's their website: http://www.einsteinsatlanta.com/home.php

You cannot picnic at a concert at the Botanical Garden. Sorry.

6. Alice wanted me particularly to thank you for the suggestion of Einstein's
She loved it, especially the Fudge Reactor. We weren't able to make it until Saturday brunch of course (see reply 4), but we were very pleased.

Thanks for all your suggestions; pity we missed the show, but we still had a lot of fun.

3. If you don't feel comfortable parking in the neighborhood...
park at Colony Square. If you get there and don't mind a short walk, there are side streets where you can park. Just don't block a driveway or park near a hydrant. And bring your bug spray as mentioned.

4. Update: Discuss the term "fiasco" (We missed the show completely)
We got out of town late, hit three torrential downpours on I-20, got completely lost several times when we finally hit Atlanta, and got to the Botanical Gardens just in time to see everybody leaving. On the other hand, we had an adventure, got to experience Ikea-mania the next day, and anyway we have more fun doing nothing than most people have going to concerts, so we still had a good time. I could be happier about burning $180 for nothing, but hey-- nobody died, it was fun, and Saturday was a pretty day.

Thanks all the same for everybody's information and good thoughts!
